Let Tutoring Emporium help you get your best score on test day!
Our SAT/ACT instructors tailor their teaching to the needs of each student. They can:
help a student decide which exam to take: some students will do better on the SAT and some on the ACT.
find and address each student’s skill gaps: note that this is not a one-size-fits-all program, but customized for each student.
explain test-taking strategies, such as how to manage time, when to skip a question, how to guess effectively, etc. Those strategies can add significant points to any student's score.
promote a Growth Mindset. That’s a belief that talent can be developed through hard work and that mistakes are not to be feared: they’re merely indicators of what you don’t know … yet.
As with any coach-able activity or skill, the driving force behind improvement is not instruction alone:
it’s the combination of instruction and practice.
Students who practice several hours between sessions and who are willing to struggle a bit along the way see the greatest improvements in the scores. With this in mind, we ask SAT/ACT prep students to complete at least two – but preferably three or four – sections of a practice exam before each section. Note that we use real SAT and ACT exams from past years. Practice tests afford the student the opportunity to identify their weaknesses, implement strategies discussed in tutoring, learn to pace themselves, and become more comfortable with the test(s). The session time is spent teaching strategies, evaluating improvement, and reviewing incorrect (and even correct!) answers to understand the reasoning behind the correct answers and the strategies which could be used to arrive there.
Students obtain an average improvement in their scores of
~ 6 points on the ACT
~ 150 points on the SAT.
